NTSB schedules update on investigation
HERALD-LEADER STAFF REPORT
The National Transportation Safety Board will conduct a second press conference today updating the public on Sunday’s crash of a Comair regional jet.
The jet crashed shortly after taking off at the Blue Grass Airport about 6 a.m.
At the board’s first briefing last night, officials confirmed that preliminary information showed the pilot took off from the wrong, shorter runway. Debbie Hersman, a National Transportation Safety Board member, said that "ground scars," or marks made by the plane as it crashed, and information from flight recorders indicated that Delta Comair Flight 5191, took off on Runway 26, which is for use by smaller aircraft.
Hersman said information obtained by the NTSB indicated that the pilot was cleared to take off on Runway 22, which is 7,000 feet long and designed for passenger jets. Runway 26 is 3,500 feet long. It is not clear why the jet took off from the wrong runway. NTSB continues to investigate.
Today’s briefing is scheduled to begin at noon at the Hilton Suites in Lexington Green Circle. For more information, check Kentucky.com.

*my opinion is that the pilot was not paying atention to the sings on the runway and went on to the wrong runway. i also think that the tower should of been able to have seen him go to the wrong runway and told him that he was going onto the wrong one.
